From Frumpy, to Fabulous!

We all have those boring, baggy, old tee-shirts we don't really wear anymore...and we all either donate them, turn them into rags, or simply throw them away. But...why should be so ready to give up on something, just for being a little ugly? Why not turn something frump, into something fabulous!

This super cute shirt was made in less than 5 minutes, with no sewing required, and all from one of those ugly throw away shirts. Isn't it amazing what a bit if imagination, and some scissors can do? To make this shirt you'll need:

  • 1 pair of scissors
  • 1 spool of grosgrain ribbon
  • 1 peice of chalk
  • 1 bottle of fabric glue
  • 1 ugly ass tee-shirt, in a color you like

Look at the diagram below, and get your piece of chalk ready!

1st: Lightly sketch out where you want your neckline to be. I would suggest only taking off the collar in the back, and not going any lower...otherwise you're tee will become an off the shoulder number.

2nd: Sketch out the lines for the ribbon. You need to have 4 lines, with the inner two right below the middle of your tata's, and the outer two about 4 inches from the inner line.

3rd: Cut the collar, and the ribbon lines.

4th:  Now, take your ribbon, and cut it into 4 pieces...with each piece being 10-14 inches. It depends on how long you want the ties to be.

5th: Put one end of the ribbon inside one of the cuts on the chest, and glue it to the t-shirt. Make sure you use glue that will hold through being washed and dried! If you prefer, you can always handsew the ribbons into place, which will only take about 10 minutes.

6th: When the glue is completely dry, you can put the tee-shirt on, and make your two knots. Tie the inner ribbons into a knot, and then the outer ribbons into a pretty bow.

Voila! Now you have a super cute new shirt!

Frugal Fashion Fridays: .25 Cent Top

It's Friday, and you know what that means....time for Frugal Fashion Fridays! Due to some stuff going on here, I didn't have a chance to take a decent photo, so I'm using one a friend took of me.

For today's FFF, I wanted to talk about thrifting. I know, there are a lot of bad things said about thrift stores, but there are some AWESOME things as well. Scouring the racks for that one amazing tee or dress or pair of shoes is one of the best 'hunts' I go on. It's more fulfilling than shopping at a boutique for me, and is more like a treasure hunt.

After looking through every rack at the Goodwill, I found this great flowy top, with a half off tag, stuffed in a horribly ugly boot I was trying on ( for the sake of trying to win White Trash Bash that year). Because as an experienced thrifter, I know the good stuff gets hidden most times, by people who have come early and want to come back later, and sometimes those hiding places take you completely off guard!

This top only cost me a quarter after all was said and done, and after checking out the tags, I realized this shirt was from Wet Seal, and probably cost $25 or more originally. $25 to .25...I would call that one amazing Frugal Find!

Welcome to Frugal Fashion Fridays!

I posted a few days about this event, and had some great response to it, so today, we're having our very first Frugal Fashion Fridays! I promise that over the course of this weekly post, we'll have fashion finds, make-up tips, and everything in between!

To begin, I want to say that being frugal is sometimes easy, and sometimes hard. It takes some extra time to save a few dollars in most cases, but it's usually well worth the effort. Being frugal and fashionable, that's even more work, but the rewards are huge, and the rush you get when on the hunt for an amazing piece...well..it can't be beat.

So today, I want to share with you an AMAZING sale that my friend Jolene and I went crazy at. Now, I'm a rather slender girl, with decent sized hips, and Jolene, who blogs over at Sparkling Streams, is plus sized. Now, imagine the fantastic day we found a store that fit us both!

DEB is a young woman's store, usually in the mall, that carries both junior and plus sized clothing. And not just frumpy or boring clothing either, bold, vivacious, and cute clothing. And right now, they're having a clearance sale. If you stick around long enough, you'll learn the greatness of clearance sales on this blog. But for a limited time, not only is a huge selection on clearance, but you get to take an extra 50%-60% off that clearance price! Oh yes ladies...I'm talking brand new, adorable clothing, for less than $3 in most cases.

Needless to say Jolene and I went a bit crazy trying on stuff.

Eventually, I got three shirts, two necklaces, and pair of tights, all for less than $10. Here's a few of my finds.

Jolene walked away with four shirts, and a headband, for less than $12. Here's some of her shirts, her photos used with her permission.

The pink shirt Jolene got is the same style as the blue one I'm wearing, and drapes beautifully on both our figures. Thankfully, draping is coming back, which helps hide all those places we don't like so much, and flatters every woman, no matter her shape

So if you want to check out DEB, HERE'S a link to their online store, chocked full of half off clearance items! Not only shirts, but shoes, skirts, and jewelry too!

I was NOT compensated by DEB to write this, I just love this store, and this sale was amazing.

Frugal Fashion Fridays!

In this economy, it can be hard to find economical ways to stay fashionable without spending a fortune. As a full time college student and small business owner, I'm living on little to no income, yet I still get compliments on my wardrobe, hair, and makeup. How do I manage this?

I've teamed up with Maria from Adventures of the Mommy Homemaker, to bring you all our latest tips, tutorials, and weekly fashion finds, so you too can be fashionable and cute while pinching the pennies! Want to join in the fun? We'll have a weekly linky, where you can add your finds to the mix as well! There's nothing better than sharing the frugal fashion!

If you want to link up, or help us spread the word, please feel free to add this button to your weekly Frugal Fashion post.

Or this one for 150x150 sidebars:

Every Friday, starting this week, we'll be bringing you the best tips, tricks, and thrifts that we find. Please help us share and promote this event, so we can put the fashion back in frugal!
