I am an Artist

I've been getting quite a bit of slack lately for watermarking my photos on this blog, as well as the ones I take and share on Facebook (usually my living history and reenactment photos). It seems some people think that the hard work you do (be it blogging, taking photographs, making digital creations, etc.) should cost them nothing to take and use as they wish.

I'm sorry, but that is NOT how art works.

It takes time, effort, and in many cases money out of your own pocket to create something...so why should you not even be given credit for all that hard work you do? I made this in my frustration today.

If you feel the same, feel free to share this, and spread the word!

Instant Art: Common Seal

I know it's been a while since I did an Instant Art post, but I haven't found anything lately that caught my eyes. Until now, that is.

This image is from a book published in 1896, with the title of British Mammals. How charming do those seals look, perched on their rock in the middle of what could be a bay? I especially love the muted colors, and the little seals in the background.

To download, please click on the image to blow it up, right click, and hit "Save As." Then print it it, frame it, and voila! You have an instant conversation piece.

Instant Art: British Eggs

I've got another great Instant Art for you all! I just love the colors on these eggs, and I think they would be perfect for an office or kitchen!

Just right click on the image, hit 'save as', re-size if you wish, and print! Viola, instant art for any room or space. If you want the image to last a lifetime, I suggest using Acid-Free paper.

These are from 'Coloured Figures of the Eggs of British Birds' by H. Seebohm.

I'm offering the original, and the one I edited to brighten the colors.

Instant Art: Blue Striped Lory & Blue Mountain Lory

Do I have any followers that are bird lovers? If so, I have a gorgeous print for you! I've planned to start incorporating some of my favorite vintage prints from Natural History Books from days gone by. Photography is nice, but there is just something so beautiful about vintage artwork that can't be beaten by the best high definition camera.

This particular print comes from The illustrated book of canaries and cage-birds, British and foreign (1878). It shows a Blue Striped Lory and Blue Mountain Lory, neither of which is actually blue. But both are very charming.

I took the liberty to offer you the unaltered version, right from the book, as well as one I edited to clean it up a bit.

To get this great print for yourself, just click on the image to enlarge it, and hit "Save As". Once you have it, resize it, and print! I suggest Acid-Free paper if you want the print to last. This would be a beautiful print for an office, workplace, bedroom, bathroom...well...anywhere really! This gorgeous pair of Lory's will add some color and charm to any room.
