Instant Art: Common Seal

I know it's been a while since I did an Instant Art post, but I haven't found anything lately that caught my eyes. Until now, that is.

This image is from a book published in 1896, with the title of British Mammals. How charming do those seals look, perched on their rock in the middle of what could be a bay? I especially love the muted colors, and the little seals in the background.

Perfect Pick Me Up: Conscious Box

A few days ago, I posted a little teaser about Conscious Box, where I explained a bit about them. Here's a bit of what I said,
"Conscious Box is monthly box, mailed to your doorstep, filled with all natural, pure, and eco-friendly products. Imagine it, no matter how busy your schedule, or how long your day is, once a month you'll be getting a box of natural goodness sent to you, all for one really low price. Every month the samples change, so it's always a new and fun surprise as to what you can get!"
I received the July Conscious Box to review, and can I just say I loved it! When I opened the shipping box, I saw this. A rather plain looking, and simple box. But this box was the first thing that let me know I was going to love this company. Not only is the box recycled, but so it the tissue paper inside, and all the inks are vegetable based. What's even better, is that Conscious Box wants you to further recycle your box, and gives you creative ways to do so; planting a flower in it, Shred it to create a base for compost, fill it with tissues, etc.

When I opened the box, I was really shocked by everything inside! I have no idea how they managed to get so much in a box of this size, but I was really impressed.

Here's a list of the awesome stuff that was inside for this month.
All Natural Face - Vegan Eye Shadow in Lemon Ice
Aura Cacia - Sweet Orange Aromatherapy Oil and Card Set
Just Great Stuff - Organic Superberry Acai Bar
Naturally It's Clean - Floor Cleaner
Jadience herbal Formulas - Muscle & Joint Therapeutic Cream
Madhava -  Organic Agave Nectar and Organic Coconut Sugar
Mighty Leaf - Calypso Mango Iced Tea
GoGo squeeZ - Apple Mango Applesauce
Tea Forte - Cherry Marzipan, Cucumber Mint, and Honey Tea
St. Claire's Organics - Tin of Peppermints
Sun Warrior - Vanilla flavored Raw Protein Drink Mix
Powbab - Pomegranate Acai Berry Superfruit Chew
Coupons for Various other All Natural and Pure Companies

Being a tea addict, I tried the Honey flavored tea from Tea Forte first, and all I can say is, "Yummm". Each tea I tried had a very pleasant flavor, and kept it, no matter how watered down the tea got.

The applesauce was in a portable, re-sealable, squeeze pouch. That alone made me a happy camper, as healthy snacks on campus are few and far between. There was a good amount of applesauce in the pouch, and it was so good! It had a great taste, and for someone who doesn't love mango, that's saying something.

Since I was in a healthy snacking mood, I tried the Just Good Stuff bar next. Since I'm used to eating all natural and vegan food from time to time, I wasn't surprised by the consistency of this bar. However, for those not used to food like this, be warned. It's a bit sticky and gooey, but it's SO worth it, as it tastes amazing. In fact everything I tasted from this box was really yummy, even the powdered drink mix, which I was pretty skeptical of at first.

Overall, I was really really impressed with the variety or products, and how great each one was. My favorite though has to be the aromatherapy oil and cards. The oil was scented so well I was shocked. You know that whiff of scent you get the moment you start peeling a fresh orange? That's the exact smell, but they bottled it for my pleasure! The cards though, are something even more amazing. It's a set of 54 cards, scented like Lavender and mint, that come in three different types of cards; Essentials, Benefits, and Formulations. The Essentials cards familiarize you with the plants that create the most familiar essential oils. the Benefits cards tell you all the different benefits each Oil can give you, and the Formulations cards give you ideas on how to mix and blend your oils for maximum potency! By far, my favorite part of this box.

Want to know more about these awesome boxes, and all that comes in them? Please check out their Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest accounts, where you'll get updates about ways to use your empty boxes, new products, and more! And don't for get to visit their website, and order yours.

Next month will be the August 'Back to School' Conscious Box! It's going to have delicious, nutritious snacks, some great daily alternatives, and tons of other really fun stuff that everyone will enjoy, making it an AWESOME gift for all students, including K-12 and college. And yes, it's great for students and non students alike, so you can gift it to anyone! Just remember, you've got to order before the 6th of the month! This is the only legitimately healthy care package we've seen this year, and they're going fast!

I know I would appreciate one! College life takes it out of you, and something like this is the perfect pick me up.

Five Finger Tees Giveaway

I was recently given the chance to review a fantastic company called Five Fingers Tees, and I have to start by saying I LOVE THEM.

As we have covered numerous times before on this blog, I am a nerd. Not just your normal run-of-the-mill, plays a few video games and watches Big Bang theory nerd. Oh no, I am a full blown, Sindarin speaking,  cosplay wearing, convention going, nerd. Being such, it's sometimes hard to find clothing for my numerous 'fandoms', which is both affordable and cute. This would be because most of the shirts made for fellow nerds, are for men. That's my first great thing to say about this company, they have shirts for women! Not frumpy shirts either, but fitted and well cut to a woman.

For my review I was given the chance to try out one shirt of my choosing, and after combing my way through various shirt designs, including Portal, The Walking Dead, Lord of the Rings, and others, I found the perfect shirt.

It's called Don't Blink, and is one of the best Doctor Who shirts I have seen in a long time. here's a close up of the design.

This design features one of the most terrifying antagonists of the entire Doctor Who series; the Weeping Angels. The best description of which can be seen in this video, which made these creatures known to the Whoniverse and it's huge fan base.

Besides the fact that this tee has a perfect design, it's very comfortable! The fabric is soft, but not so much that it's in danger of ripping, and it's really well made. The construction is durable, and will last quite a bit longer than other shirts I have bought in the past. As I said before, the fit is great as well. It fits in a way that would flatter any size and body shape, which is quite an achievement for a t-shirt!

The website is really easy to navigate as well, and offers hundreds of great designs. Everything from blank t-shirts to funny, geeky, video game, pop culture, and more.  There is something on this site for everyone, and the prices are amazing! Some of the best I have found anywhere for the quality of the shirt. Add to that, the fact that they have a daily $6 Deal, which is a new shirt design every day on sale for $6. It doesn't get better than that.

Overall, I'm in love with this shirt, and have made a wishlist of other great shirts I want to get from this site.
I would recommend this site to anyone looking to please that 'hard to get a gift' person in their life. There is bound to be something here for everyone, at a price that won't break the bank. Shipping is fast and easy as well.

Well, now's your chance to get one, for free! Enter to win below, for the chance to win one shirt of your choice!

Welcome to Frugal Fashion Fridays!

I posted a few days about this event, and had some great response to it, so today, we're having our very first Frugal Fashion Fridays! I promise that over the course of this weekly post, we'll have fashion finds, make-up tips, and everything in between!

To begin, I want to say that being frugal is sometimes easy, and sometimes hard. It takes some extra time to save a few dollars in most cases, but it's usually well worth the effort. Being frugal and fashionable, that's even more work, but the rewards are huge, and the rush you get when on the hunt for an amazing piece...well..it can't be beat.

So today, I want to share with you an AMAZING sale that my friend Jolene and I went crazy at. Now, I'm a rather slender girl, with decent sized hips, and Jolene, who blogs over at Sparkling Streams, is plus sized. Now, imagine the fantastic day we found a store that fit us both!

DEB is a young woman's store, usually in the mall, that carries both junior and plus sized clothing. And not just frumpy or boring clothing either, bold, vivacious, and cute clothing. And right now, they're having a clearance sale. If you stick around long enough, you'll learn the greatness of clearance sales on this blog. But for a limited time, not only is a huge selection on clearance, but you get to take an extra 50%-60% off that clearance price! Oh yes ladies...I'm talking brand new, adorable clothing, for less than $3 in most cases.

Needless to say Jolene and I went a bit crazy trying on stuff.

Eventually, I got three shirts, two necklaces, and pair of tights, all for less than $10. Here's a few of my finds.

Jolene walked away with four shirts, and a headband, for less than $12. Here's some of her shirts, her photos used with her permission.

The pink shirt Jolene got is the same style as the blue one I'm wearing, and drapes beautifully on both our figures. Thankfully, draping is coming back, which helps hide all those places we don't like so much, and flatters every woman, no matter her shape

So if you want to check out DEB, HERE'S a link to their online store, chocked full of half off clearance items! Not only shirts, but shoes, skirts, and jewelry too!

Want to share your frugal find for the week? Please join the linky below, and feel free to add this badge to your post.

I was NOT compensated by DEB to write this, I just love this store, and this sale was amazing.

Haunting Halloween : Buy Costume Review and Giveaway

We all know Halloween will be here very soon, and you know what that means: scary movies, parties, candy, and the most important aspect of all, costumes! How do you do in the costume contest every year? Good, fair...not so great? If you're not doing so good, maybe it's time to look at your costume...

I was given the chance to reevaluate my costume this year, by Buy Costume, and let me just say, I am one happy costumed girl! I reviewed the Goldie Rush Adult Costume, in a size Small. Thankfully they have a different size chart for each costume, to ensure the best fit for you, based on the costume you decided on. Here's the photo from the website:

And the costume I received

The fabric was stretchy, which was very nice considering I have huge hips. Everything was intact and looked great. It didn't feel cheap, like most costumes do, and it actually came with all the accessories! I got the dress, the headpiece, the garter, and the boa. I will suggest using a petticoat with this costume, as it's rather short in the back otherwise. However, that was really my only complaint!

It was comfortable to wear, and held up well under stresses. So feel free to enter the rafflecopter below to win your own great costume from Buy Costume!

Letters from Pippin

Sometimes I wonder if I have a magical dog. Some of you may already know this, but when I moved to Kansas, I had to leave my amazing, sweet, and loving dog, Pippin, behind. He currently lives with my parents, and I miss everyday.

So imagine my surprise when I get a card from him.

And not only did he make it himself, oh no, he also wrote in it too!

Yep, I have a magical dog. And look at that penmanship! It's like he has a thumb!

Lilla Rose Review and Giveaway

Every once in a while a product comes along that I fall totally, completely, and utterly in love with. Lilla Rose is one of those products. Having very thin and fine hair, it makes it difficult to find a hair ornament that looks pretty, and actually hold my hair up, without falling down in about two seconds. But Lilla Rose rose not only had a product that held my hair, but it looks amazing while doing so!

I got to choose among the many different products that they carry, but I was drawn to the Flexi Clips the most. After browsing through the beautiful designs, I found the perfect one; the Fancy Blossom Dangle. I got the medium size after watching the sizing video, which helps you decide what would work best for your individual hair type. The sizes range from mini, all the way to the extra long and mega.

Since I was excited to try out my new clip, I started making different hair styles that I wear commonly. For this one, I tried a simple flipped through ponytail, with the clip running through the flipped part. It's hard to get the clip straight in the back without a mirror! Since there isn't much hair in this style, I was surprised at how well it stayed in.

Next, I tried a traditional bun, with the clip holding it at the bottom, instead of over the bun. I held very very well, and was easy to put in my hair. I love the little dangles!

A simple twist was the next look to try. The loops bent with ease around the hair, and I was able to slide the pin in without an issues. The clip dressed up even my most mussy and derelict hairstyle!

Finally, I tried a quick ponytail again, but with the top half of the pony looped up. I've worn this hairstyle all day, and not only has the clip stayed, it hasn't budged! I normally suffer from headaches after having a clip of any kind in my hair for longer than an hour, but this one doesn't give me a headache at all. It's the most comfortable hair ornament I've ever had.

This is one product I could rave on an on about, and now, I'm giving you the chance to win one! Enter below to won your own Lilla Rose product!

My Adventure at Build-a-Bear

Today I got to do something I have wanted to do for years; go to Build-a-Bear! Ever since the store opened in my area, I have wanted to go in and make an animal, but lack of funds and a person to go with hindered me for over 5 years. Then today, a very dear friend offered to take me, and there was nothing that could stop me!

I looked over the animals in the bins, and they were all very cute, ranging in price from $10 to $30. But at the very end, wearing a World Wildlife Foundation necktag, was the one; a Fennec Fox. I looked through the pile of empty foxes, until I found the right one.

If you've known me longer than five minutes, you know I have a love of foxes that is unrivaled by almost any other animal, so this was the perfect animal for me to get. Also, $1 from the sale of him went to the WWF, so I was more than happy to help a cause I believed in return for such a great little friend!

The process at Build-a-Bear was simple enough: pick out an animal, have it stuffed, fluff it, and buy it. But it was the experience that made it worth the trip. The store has different stations to visit, with a helper at each to help you along the way. I held my fox in line, until it was my turn to have him stuffed. The helper took him, and had me hold my foot on the pedal which controlled the giant stuffing machine. She moved him all around, filling his limbs with polyfil, then his head, and finally his middle.

Before she closed him up, she had me pick out a heart...

Make a wish, and seal it with a kiss. Being the nerdy girl I am, I wished this, "No gelin idh raid gîn, a no adel gin i chwest" Meaning, "May your paths be green and the breeze behind you" in Sindarin.

After putting the heart inside him, the helper strung him up, and it was off to the fluffing machine!

The fluffing machine looked like little showers, and when you stepped on the pedal, a burst of air came out. I ran my fox under the 'shower', and fluffed up his fur and tail.

After he was all fluffed, it was now time to find him some clothing! After all, I can't just have a naked fox.

The helper at the clothing asked if he was a boy or a girl, and offered her advice on what would look cute on him, based on what was within our price range. After looking for what seemed like an hour, I found the cutest little shirt and vest combo, and knew it would be perfect! There were matching pants and a jacket as well, but I loved the look of him in just the shirt, so why get all the other stuff?

After getting his clothing put on him, it was birth certificate time! You get to fill out a birth certificate for every animal you make, which then allows you to give it a birthday and a name. The naming part was the hardest thing, but I finally came up with Sylver.

I printed out my certificate, and went to check out. The helpers were very very kind, and super helpful, and really made the experience worthwhile! It didn't matter to them if you were 5 or 50, they wanted to help you have a fun time making your animal. I left very happy, with a new fox friend in tow., and just itching to go back again one day.
